Frequently Asked Questions

How do music lessons work?
Students enrolled in Major Scale Music Lessons have weekly lessons on scheduled day and time, either at the convenience of their home or at my home studio. Rates vary depending on the length of the lesson (30-, 45- or 60-minutes). As students have unique needs, goals and levels, each student is taught with a customized lesson plan.
Beginners are encouraged to enroll in a trial lesson. Additional lessons are pre-paid in advanced to reserve the scheduled lesson time. Method books and materials are charged separately.
What is the schedule?
For beginner students, it is recommended to commit to weekly lessons (available from Monday through Saturday) for 30, 45 or 60 minutes. Please feel free to schedule your 15-min trial lesson for a chance to meet me, for me to meet your student and to experience a sample of what the music lesson will be like.
Where do the music lessons take place?
At this time my home studio, located in southwest Miami, Florida, will not resume in-person classes due to COVID-19 restrictions. All music lessons are currently taking place virtually on Zoom.
Do I need a piano?
While a piano is recommended for piano lessons, a digital piano or keyboard with a minimum of 61-keys would also be ok to start lessons. It is important to have access to a keyboard at home for practice between lessons.
Yamaha P-series digital pianos (P-45 or P-125) are great starters and are widely available for order online from Amazon, Guitar Center and many other retailers. If you’re considering a digital piano, please remember to also purchase a keyboard stand and bench for proper set up.
Should you consider purchasing a piano or have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us for referrals or recommendations.
How often do I need to practice?
Consistent practice is necessary to progress. Beginning students should be practicing for a minimum of 20 minutes each day. For tips, please see our resources page.
What activities are available with Major Scale Music Lessons?
Students enrolled with Major Scale Music Lessons have various performance opportunities, including recitals, competitions and assessments through the Royal Conservatory Music Development program. It is encouraged for students to participate in these activities to achieve growth in their music education and appreciation.
